Remembering the day when He accepted my little lunch of three stories..
It was during the preaching of The Word at Maranatha Baptist Church, McAllen, TX when The Holy Spirit worked in my heart to surrender the three stories that I had "secretly" written. (However, there are no secrets with God, and now I see that He wanted those little fish.) The...se were what came to mind when listening to the man of God preach about not hiding your talents. "God can use them."
At the time, my thinking was that one had to have degrees plastered all over a wall before one could do anything of any worth for God. Well, that thinking is wrong on many levels.. First of all, one does not do things for God, He does things through willing vessels. Secondly, the qualification to becoming a vessel of use to The Master is to simply be willing. (The training and education has come, as needed.)
One of the stories was Tomasa's Cure. It's a true story about a woman I met in Ohio at a nursing home. One day she was encouraged by a staff person (Jan) to tell me about the little scar on her knee. As she spoke, I saw Jesus all over that story and was moved to write the children's gospel story. She died not long afterwards.. I sure hope she knows how The Lord is using her story about a time when a rattle snake bit her in South Texas. (Did you get that? We were still in Ohio (before transferring to McAllen, and I met her. She was originally from San Juan, TX.) Only God..
Obedience Brings Blessings is a children's story that The Lord gave me while listening to an evangelist preach. "Everybody wants the blessings but not many want to obey The Lord. Oh, I saw a needed word for children of all ages in that message.
A rewrite of an out-of-print The Indian Chief's Gift that takes place many years ago and is about an Indian Chief who understands the awesomeness of God, a little at a time, and wants to give his things to this awesome God. At the end, he realizes that God doesn't want his pony, or tomahawk.. He wants his heart.
I wrestled with surrendering these stories, knowing that they were such little things. (Now I understand this wrestling was doubting the omniscience and omnipotence of God Almighty.) It was as though there were very few people present in the service that morning. There was God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, the preacher, the enemy and me. There were so many reasons thrown at me as to why I shouldn't go forward and give these to God, but one reason to go won out.. He wanted them.. and who am I to deprive Him of what He gave me in the first place? I walked the aisle that day, and when the preacher came to me, I simply asked him to pray for me, there was something that I had to do. I told no one, but God knew and He was moving.
Jesus is the spotlight in this little ministry. Now there is a group of us who takes the message of hope to world in the forms of Bible Clubs, VBS's, conferences and teacher's workshops. The workbooks are a joy to write, use and send to other teachers to use in teaching The Word.
We praise Him for taking little things from little hands and using them for His purposes. God delights in doing the miraculous with little things.
Helping Hands Ministry
Rhoda Rodriguez, Spanish translator
The stories have gone out into many Latin American countries, as well as other parts of the world. Reaching the Spanish speaking population could not have been possible without the faithful translation work of Rhoda Rodriguez. She has been with us from nearly the beginning of the ministry and is a joy to work with. Rhoda is married to Jesus and they have two children, Sami and Melec. She also serves at the Rio Grande Bible Institute, directing the daycare as well as ministering at her church by working in the children's department. Rhoda accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was 10 years old.
Veronique Ashley, French Translator
Veronique continues translating HHM materials as she cares for her family, which consists of husband William, who is a youth pastor, and their two children, working closely with Isa, in France.
Isa accepted Jesus in 1986. Translating De's stories seems to her God's given privilege. She works at a school in Toulouse, France and serves Jesus along with Philippe her husband and her three delightful children.
Our Doctrinal Statement
We, at Helping Hands Ministry, believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings and the final authority in faith and lifestyle.
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus is the eternal Son of God who became man without ceasing to be God.
We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell through sin, which separated him from God.
We believe that Jesus became man's substitute for the penalty of sin by His death, burial and resurrection, offering salvation to all who believe in Him, by the grace of God, through faith alone; thereby reconciling the believer back to God.
We believe the local church is an assembly of believers in Christ, whose purpose is to worship, serve, edify, evangelize and who observe the ordinances of baptism and communion.
